Catering and Food

A world of flavour

Every dinner at AJ2028 takes you somewhere new. Eleven days, eleven countries, cooked by you and your Patrol.

How it works

How food works at the Jamboree

1. Choose your menu

In mid 2027 your Unit picks its own meals from the full AJ2028 menu list.

2. Shop at the Supermarket

Each day the Duty Patrol heads to the onsite Supermarket to collect everything needed for that night's dinner through to the next morning's breakfast.

3. Cook and eat together

Patrols cook on site using easy-to-follow recipe cards. Lunch is sorted for you at the Lunch Mart.

Good to know

  • The menu was created in consultation with Scouts from across regional and metro areas.
  • Lots of options across different proteins, carbs and cuisines.
  • The menu is being reviewed by a dietician to make sure it is nutritious and right for hot weather and a full activity program.
  • Recipe cards show exactly what equipment you need and how to cook each dish.
  • Wherever possible, food comes from local producers and businesses.
  • An online "Cooks" briefing will prepare Unit Leaders and Patrol Leaders for camp cooking before the Jamboree.

Lunch, diets and the Supermarket

How lunches, modified diets, recipe cards and the Supermarket work during the Jamboree.

Lunch Mart

Lunch is made for you. Every morning Scouts grab a fresh, ready-made lunch from the Lunch Mart on the way to activities, pop it in their bag and go.

  • Huge variety: sandwiches, sushi, rice paper rolls, salad bowls and more
  • Frozen drinks to keep lunch cool
  • Morning tea and afternoon tea options too
  • Lunch Marts are also set up at the main offsite activities, so you collect there instead of carrying it all day
  • Available to everyone: Scouts, Line Leaders, Service Leaders and Activity Leaders
  • More time in the morning to get ready, and no wrestling with cling wrap

Modified diets and allergies

We expect up to 2,000 participants with modified diet needs, and we are ready for it.

  • Nut free event. No products containing nuts are supplied or allowed to be brought onto Jamboree sites.
  • Choose from one of 19 Modified Menus. If none fits, a personalised menu is created for you.
  • Modified Menus swap out specific items from the standard menu, so you still eat the same themed dinner as your Patrol.
  • Your Jamboree application is the single source of truth for dietary and food-related medical information. Please make sure it is complete and accurate.
  • The Supermarket has a dedicated Modified Diets area with diet suitability labelling, "mod-friendly" whole foods and advice on hand.
  • Lunch Mart stocks a range of Modified Diet products.
  • Service Leader Dining has dedicated Modified Diet cooks and a separate servery.
  • Units will need to bring some extra equipment to store, prepare and cook modified diet meals separately (for example small pots).
  • Menus, ingredient lists and recipe cards are updated automatically whenever a product or menu changes.

Recipe cards

Every dish comes with a recipe card so any Patrol can cook it. Each card shows:

  • Ingredients and quantities
  • Modified diet replacements for that dish
  • Equipment needed
  • Step-by-step instructions
  • Cooking time and how easy it is to modify
  • Mod Diet notes

The Supermarket

The Supermarket is designed to be a fun, welcoming and energetic part of daily Jamboree life.

  • The Duty Patrol collects supplies for their Unit's pre-selected meals and Modified Diet needs
  • Units access their shopping list on their phone and tick items off as they go
  • Quantities are carefully planned: take up to the amount on your list, but only what you need
  • Aisles are laid out so you can grab everything in one trip, including cleaning products, ice and gas
  • Supermarket team members are there to help you find products and answer questions
  • Units camped a long way from the Supermarket get their shopping delivered after they shop
  • Daily stocktakes and adjustable orders help reduce excess stock and food waste
Leaders and Venturers

Service Leader Dining

For adult leaders and Venturers.

  • Feeds up to 1,500 people a day, including all Service Leaders and Venturers
  • Hot and cold breakfast options
  • The same round-the-world themed dinners as the Units, plus a bit of pizza
  • Multiple servery lanes to cut queues
  • Set mealtimes, but the dining area is a cooled hang-out space for leaders any time
  • Self-serve lunch mart, microwave meals, tea, coffee and cold drinks available 24 hours
  • Barista coffee available for purchase each morning
  • No dilly bags required, it is all taken care of
  • Separate cooking and serving for Modified Diets
  • Run entirely by volunteers, many of whom are professional chefs and hospitality workers
